Telex - Looking For Saint-Tropez

Long before Daft Punk put on robot helmets, Belgium’s Telex were mastering the art of deadpan, synthesized cool. Their 1979 debut album is a landmark of early electro and synth-pop, famously featuring a glacial, robotic cover of 'Rock Around the Clock' and the pulsing, proto-techno dancefloor hit 'Moskow Diskow.' Using early synthesizers and heavily vocodered vocals, they created a sound that was simultaneously futuristic and deeply ironic. The brilliant TV-test-pattern cover hints at the completely artificial, electronic world they built within the grooves. A masterpiece of minimal synth.
